Antonine Productions (Film Production Company)

 Organization

Biography

Antonine Productions was set up by Scottish producer Paddy Higson. Her career in film and television has been expansive. Paddy has been line producer for such films as THAT SINKING FEELING, GREGORY’S GIRL, THE GIRL IN THE PICTURE, and SILENT SCREAM. She has worked with the likes of Billy Connelly, John Byrne and Bill Forsyth. Paddy started as a secretary at the BBC, where she met her first husband, Patrick Higson. Patrick went on to set up a company called Viz Productions with friend Murray Grigor. Paddy had an active role in arranging the film crew for the productions. She later met director Bill Forsyth and started working with him on films as a production supervisor. It was in 1983 that she decided to start her own production company, Antonine Productions. The company went on to produce several films and Paddy set up an affiliate company, Black Cat Studios. Antonine Productions went into liquidation in 1991 when one of the backers of the company declined further funding. Paddy and her daughter Frances went on to form Antonine Films that same year. They produced several films including ORPHANS in 1997. Along with film productions, Paddy Higson has been involved with the BBC for various projects, including CARDIAC ARREST. Antonine Films officially folded in 2001. Since then both Paddy and Frances have worked on various projects, including THE MAGDALENE SISTERS in 2002.
