Chief Press Officer, Scottish Office 1940-1946; Editor of the 'Daily Record' 1946-1955 and of 'The Scotsman', 1956-1972; Chairman of Thomson Scottish Petroleum Ltd 1972-1979; a director of several Thomson Organisation companies and a board member of many Scottish public bodies including the Edinburgh Festival Society, the Scottish Tourist Board and the Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
