Correspondence, 1817-1827, of Sir Walter Scott, John Wilson Croker, Jessie Huxley (née Scott) and his sister-in-law Mrs Thomas Scott (Elizabeth McCulloch). Of the nine letters, seven are to Elizabeth mainly about affairs in Canada, and on Walter’s visit to Ireland.

Transcriptions of the letters have been tipped in.

Many of the letters relate Charles Ballantyne’s scholarly interests particularly Sir Walter Scott, Marc Raffalovich, John Gray and Aubrey Beardsley. As well as personal letters, some of the correspondence relates to requests to borrow paintings from the collection at the New Club, Edinburgh, the acquisition of which he had been in no small measure responsible for.
