Scope and Contents

According to the 'Historical Manuscripts Commission, 2nd Report', the original manuscript is inscribed 'Liber Wilf. Lawson' and appears to be the official record kept by the convenor of the Royal Commission of 1605, Sir Wilfrid Lawson.

The transcript gives a detailed account of the commission's work from 1604-1606, including copies of correspondence.

The original manuscript belonging to the Earl of Crawford is now in John Rylands Library, Manchester.

Bibliography

The manuscript is described in 'Historical Manuscripts Commission, 2nd Report' (1874), appendix, page 181.

Another transcript of this record (apparently made for one of the commissioners, Joseph Pennington of Muncaster) was in the possession of Lord Muncaster, and was used by John Graham in 'Condition of the Border at the Union', (Glasgow, 1905).
