 Series
Identifier: Ch.5122-5643

Scope and Contents

Many of the charters of the 16th and early 17th century concern John Ker, burgess of Edinburgh, and his property in Duddingston and Edinburgh. Those of the mid 17th century mainly concern his nephews, Sir Thomas Ker of Cavers and John Ker of West Nisbet, their property in Roxburghshire and Berwickshire, and their dealings with neighbouring or related families (including the Kers of Mersington and of Fawdonside and the Riddells of that llk). Ch.5329 is a signed copy of the National Covenant, written by John Penman, younger, Notary Public in Jedburgh, and addressed to Sir Thomas Ker. It contains over fifty signatures from different parts of the country. The later charters mainly concern John Carre of Cavers and Nisbet (son of John Ker of West Nisbet), the death of his uncle, Lord Jedburgh, and litigation with the Earl of Marchmont.
