Papers concerning the case of David Landale, a merchant in Kirkcaldy, indicted following a fatal duel for the murder of George Morgan, an agent of the Bank of Scotland in the town., 1826

 File
Identifier: Adv.MS.9.1.2

Scope and Contents

David Landale, the injured party in the quarrel, was acquitted of the charge. Henry Cockburn considered the case important (note, folio 1) because of the width of discretion given by Lord Gillies to the jury, and describes Gillies`s charge as "very sensible but very illegal."

A printed report of the trial (folio 230) and a pamphlet on its implications by George Buchan of Kelloe (folio 239) are bound up with the case papers.
