The drafts represent six, rather late, stages of composition. They are not entirely consecutive and would seem to be the remains of a total of nine immediately preceding the published text. MSS.6625 and 6626 represent the first of these stages; MSS.6627 and 6628 the second; MSS.6629 and 6630 the fourth; MSS.6631, 6632, and 6633 the fifth; MS.6634 the sixth; and MS.6635 the eighth. A stemma, with explanatory notes, has been inserted in MS.6625. The drafts are of interest as showing Sir James Matthew Barrie's method of perfecting a play, and his occasional use, in doing so, of more than one copy at a particular stage. Thus, after MS.6626 went to the typist Barrie made alterations in MS.6625. These he transcribed in due course into MSS.6627 and 6628, the clean copies typed from MS.6626.
