Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows:

(i) Prayers in Latin and Dutch in the female form (folio 1); (ii) Calendar, containing in red several saints from the Ghent area, such as Veerelt (4 January), Macharis (9 May), Amelberga (10 July), Bave (1 October) and Lievin (12 November) (folio 4); (iii) Hours of the Virgin (folio 16); (iv) Mass of the Virgin (folio 56); (v) Prayers to the Blessed Sacrament and to the Virgin (folio 61 verso); (vi) Penitential Psalms (folio 65); (vii) Litany and Supplications (folio 74 verso); (viii) Office of the Dead (folio 81); (ix) 'Veni Creator Spiritus' (folio 113); (x) Devotional prayers in Latin and Dutch (folio 114 verso); (xi) Hours of the Blessed Sacrament (folio 123); (xii) 'Deus propicius esto' (folio 125 verso); (xiii) Prayer to the Cross (folio 127 verso).

Folios 1-3 and 117 verso-129 are written in three hands which do not include that of the main text. Lacking the leaves containing the beginnings of Matins, Prime, Terce, Sext, and Vespers of the Hours of the Virgin (after folios 15, 32, 36, 39, 45), and of the Epistle of the Mass (after folio 57), and parts of the Office of the Dead (after folios 80, 94, 107, 110). Illuminated initials at folios 24, 42, 51, 65; full ivy-leaf borders, some inhabited, at folios 24, 42, 51, 56, 58, 65, 113. Partial borders and small illuminated initials throughout.

Physical Description

Vellum. Nineteenth-century binding (probably of French provenance) of wooden boards covered with velvet, with a clasp (now broken).
