  • Scope and Contents

The volume begins by describing several visits Campbell made to mines in Wales and the South of England while he was involved in collecting information and witnesses for the Mines` Commission, of which he was Secretary, in 1863 (folios 3-17). There are also a few watercolours made on a visit to Ireland in 1863 (folios 19 verso-30).

One or two letters have been inserted in the volume, mainly from Sir Kenneth S Mackenzie of Gairloch and his gamekeeper, 1863-1864, and a few press cuttings including an article by T P Barkas on ‘The Interior of the Earth’, 1863.
