The contents of the manuscript are as follows:

(viii) Continued from Adv.MS.50.1.6(Part 1). A long series of manuscript sections, mingled with sections and leaves of corrected and amended proofs representing together a text corresponding closely to the final version of the Ossian essays. ‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 23-37, 40-42, 45-46, 50-56, 59-83, 92-113, 115-122, 128-151, 155-160. (Folio 202.)

(ix) Much corrected and amended proofs, with additional manuscript material by John Francis Campbell and Hector MacLean, of the first part of the latter’s ‘On the Gaelic Poetry of Known and Unknown Bards’. ‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 160-185. For the later section, see Adv.MS.50.1.6(Part 1), section (v). (Folio 238.)

    (x) Another series, mostly corrected proofs but with a good deal of manuscript addenda, covering ‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 23-216, 248-252. (Folio 252.)

(xi) The manuscript texts, lacking some additional detail published in ‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, of the essays on ‘British Traditions’ (‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 259-299) (folios 309-366a), ‘Mythology: Origin of Such Stories’ (‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 300-313) (folios 367-383), ‘Mythology: West Highland Stories’ (‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 314-328) (folios 384-395), ‘A Plea for Gaelic’ (‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 346-364) (folios 396-403), ‘Dress’ (‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 365-381) (folios 404-408), `Ornament`, an incomplete draft (folio 409) for the subsequently titled ‘Celtic Art’ (‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 382, and what follows). The fragment, formerly folio 410, part of Campbell’s concluding comments on the Ossianic question, has been restored to its correct position at folio 161a. (Folio 309.)
