Manuscript of ‘Frost and Fire’ by John Francis Campbell, chapters 43-58., 1862-1865.
Scope and Contents
The volume also contains the preface to the first volume (folio 465) and additional material at the end which appears not to have been published. Rough diagrams illustrate the text and there are copies of Campbell`s ‘On a New Self-Registering Sun-Dial’ (folio 396) and ‘A Method of Converting Collodion Negatives into Positives by Heat’ (folio 401), together with proofs of the index and a list of illustrations to ‘Frost and Fire’ inserted at the back of the manuscript.
There is also a copy of a ‘Catalogue of Collection of Meteorites exhibited in the Mineral Department of the British Museum’ by Nevil Story (folio 219).
Apart from a few deviations in the order of chapters, the printed and manuscript versions for the most part correspond.
