Vellum and paper fragments from various manuscripts and printed sources, all recovered from the binding of the same work., 1522, or before.

Scope and Contents

The fragments are as follows:

(i)-(iv) Two vellum and two paper fragments from unidentified works which are not recorded in ‘Patrologia Latina’. Fragments (i) and (ii) are from the same source, and fragment (i) has a printed fragment pasted across its top.

(v)-(xvii) Thirteen fragments, all of which are bifolia from which the tops of the leaves have been cut, of a work apparently summarizing the New Testament or the Bible. Fragments (v)-(x) relate to Matthew Chapters 1-25; fragments (xi)-(xvi), which

appear to be consecutive, relate to the Epistles of St Paul from 1 Timothy to Hebrews, and to the Epistle of Saint James; and fragment (xvii) is unidentified.

(xviii)-(xix) Two unidentified German fragments from the same source.

(xx)-(xxiv) Five fragments from what appear to be proofs of ‘Hermanni Torrentini ... com̄entaria in primam partem doctrinalis Alexādri cū accuratissima vocabulo interpretatione, etc.’, 2 parts (Tubingae, 1514). 4º.

(xxv)-(xxvii) Three fragments of leaves printed in Black Letter in double columns in German, possibly from the same source.

The fragments were recovered from a copy (pressmark K.58.f) of ‘Silii Italici ... Punicorum Libri XVII’ (Basileae, 1522). Fragments (i)-(iv) were used as pastedowns, (i) and (ii) being the outer pastedowns, and the other fragments constituted the material of which the covers were made.
