    Copy of instructions given by Pierre d`Espinac, Archbishop of Lyons, to Henri, Duc de Guise, on his return to court after the barricades of Paris in 1588 (item 108). He is to establish himself at court by maintaining the King`s favour, and should try to obtain the office of Constable. He is to win the affection of the courtiers, especially of Bellegarde and Lognac, and respect the Queen Mother. The secretaries of state are about to retire, and the new men will be afraid of him, thus making his task easier.
