Letters to John Murray, publishers, of William Brockedon., 1830-1861.
Scope and Contents
The letters are to John Murray II and John Murray III. A number have the salutation “My dear Brown”, or similar. “Brown” appears to have been Brockedon’s pet name for John Murray III: it is clear that Murray III is the addressee.
The letters concern Brockedon’s various interests – painter, continental traveller – and publications. Among the titles mentioned is the “Road-book from London to Naples” (1835).
The letters are arranged chronologically.
1830, 1832-1834: folios 1-28;
1835-1836: folios 29-46;
