(i) Copland, James.

Single letter, 12 October 1830, of James Copland to John Murray II. Enclosed with the letter is the “Prospectus of an Encyclopedia of medicine and dictionary of the medical sciences, theoretical and practical”, to be edited by Copland, which was sent to Murray for his consideration. Folios 1-6.

(ii) Copland, William (d 1851).

The letters, mostly written from Scotland, are of William Copland to John Murray III. They reveal the close friendship that existed between Copland and Murray and mostly concern matters of personal interest: family news; news of friends and associates in Scotland; the exchange of foodstuffs; travel on the continent.

The letters are arranged chronologically.
