Scope and Contents

This manuscript includes letters, 1855-1895, of Joseph Crowe to John Murray III, with some letters to John Murray IV, Robert Cooke and Hallam Murray. They concern Crowe’s works, in collaboration with Giovanni Cavalcaselle, including “The early Flemish painters”, “A new history of painting in Italy”, “A history of painting in North Italy” and “Titian: his life and times”. All the letters are arranged alphabetically by correspondent and by date under each name.
