Scope and Contents

This manuscript includes letters, 1808-1830, of James Mill, and letters, 1835-1842, of his son John Stuart Mill, to John Murray II.

Also included are letters, 1771-1775, of John Millar, Professor of Law at Glasgow University, to John Murray I. Some concern his work “Observations concerning the distinction of ranks in society”.

All the letters are arranged alphabetically by correspondent and by date under each name.
