Scope and Contents
The painter Sir Charles Lock Eastlake (1793-1865) produced many publications and translations over the course of his career. Many of these were published by John Murray and Eastlake became particularly acquainted with John Murray [III] and his circle. In addition, Eastlake also contributed to the 'Quarterly Review'.
These activities and other aspects of his career feature in the correspondence of Eastlake. There are letters to John Murray [II], John Murray [III], Hester Murray, Sara Austen and Austen Henry Layard. There are also a couple of other items relating to the works of Eastlake, including a manuscript entitled 'Plan of the gallery of St. Luke's Academy', which was possibly used in the 'Handbook for Rome'.
