Manuscripts by John Cam Hobhouse, with related proofs., Early 19th century-1870.
Scope and Contents
The manuscripts and proofs in this sequence were written by John Cam Hobhouse, Baron Broughton. One of the manuscripts is an account by Hobhouse of his journey to Switzerland in 1816-1817, where he spent much time with his friend, Lord Byron.
The majority of other manuscripts also relate to Byron, including some transcriptions of his poetry, and reactions of Hobhouse to 'The life of Byron' by John Galt. In addition, there are proofs and a privately printed edition of an account of Hobhouse regarding the separation of Lord and Lady Byron.
Finally, there is a manuscript of an essay on sacrifice in early religious rites that was written by Hobhouse.
