The letters here are mainly of Austen Henry Layard to Elizabeth Eastlake and John Murray [III]. The letters to Eastlake contain news of mutual acquaintances, details of his work, accounts of his travels and discussions of art and literature. The letters to Murray often focus on the publication of works by Layard, particularly relating to his excavations. These letters make clear that Layard took an active role in the production of his works.
