It probably belonged to Jean Lang, née Blaikie, to whom many of the letters are addressed, but a substantial amount of the correspondence is to William Miller, Member of the Society of Solicitors in the Supreme Courts of Scotland, and the physician, Sir Thomas Lauder-Brunton.
