Scope and Contents

The contents include the following.

(i) Near contemporary copy of autobiographical "sketch" of the career of Major-General James Stuart, to January 1797. (Folio 1.)

(ii) Draft memoir of Major-General Stuart by Alexander Walker, circa 1815. (Folio 35.)

(iii) Draft 'sketch' of the life of Jonathan Duncan, Governor of Bombay, by Alexander Walker, published in the ‘Aberdeen journal’, 1 February 1815. (Folio 82.)

(iv) Memoir of Colonel Patrick Walker of the Bombay Cavalry, by his brother Alexander Walker, published in the ‘Asiatic journal’, volume vii (1819). (Folio 107.)

(v) ‘Retrospect of the military career of Lieut: Col: Walker of the 54th Regiment of Foot’, compiled circa 1817. This probably concerns Leslie Walker, a cousin of Alexander Walker. (Folio 167.)

(vi) Draft contributions, May 1821, to the ‘Asiatic journal’ either from or on behalf of Alexander Walker. These writings defend the Hindu character and specifically challenge the published views of William Ward, the missionary. (Folio 180.)
