Letters addressed chiefly to Sir William Stuart Walker, Knight Commander of the Bath, of Bowland., 1831-1850, 1859.
Scope and Contents
William Stuart Walker, the elder son of Alexander Walker, had a distinguished career as a lawyer and was a prominent member of the Episcopal Church of Scotland. His correspondence however is almost entirely concerned with family and estate matters at Bowland. There are some earlier letters to Alexander Walker from Lord Chief Baron Robert Dundas of Arniston, 1814-1818, chiefly about road improvements but including details of Dundas' visit to Rome in 1817-1818 just before his death. There is also correspondence, 1813, 1816, with the architect James Gillespie Graham about the additions to Walker's house at Bowland.
