"Report concerning the possibility and expence of carrying an Artificial Navigation into Strathmore: made to the Honourable his Majesty's Commissioners for managing the Annexed Estates in Scotland, by James Watt, 1771.", 1771.
Scope and Contents
The author gives detailed proposals for alternative lines of a canal running from Perth to Coupar Angus, and thence to Forfar, with remarks on the physical features and resources of the country through which the canal would pass. He discusses the relative merits of a level and locked canal, estimates the expense of each, and, in view of the nature of the country, decides upon the latter, giving practical suggestions for its construction. The report is based upon James Watt's survey of the country made in May-June 1770. The canal was never built.
