Papers concerning Archibald Campbell, the 3rd Duke of Argyll., 1629-1765, undated.
Scope and Contents
Lord Milton was responsible for the 3rd Duke of Argyll's personal and household expenses in Scotland; and had a general oversight of his Scottish estates, collaborating with his Edinburgh lawyer, Archibald Campbell of Succoth, Writer to the Signet. The earlier papers are mainly personal and household accounts, and papers concerning the property of The Whim in Peeblesshire; after his succession to the Dukedom in 1743 the family estates in Argyllshire, Stirlingshire, and Dumbartonshire are added; the papers on Inveraray Castle and New Town are especially noteworthy.
