Miscellaneous fragments from the Lesmahagow missal., 13th century, 14th century, 1719, 1725.

 File
Identifier: MS.16495A

Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows: (i) Three vellum leaves containing readings from Matthew I, 1-15 and Mark I, 2-8, and part of an office for St Thomas the Apostle, 13th century. (Folio 1.) The readings in the office appear to be from an Acta Thomae but are not the text published by J A Fabricius in ‘Codex apocryphus Novi Testamenti’. There are some notes on biblical chronology in a 14th-century cursive hand on folio 3 verso. The leaves were formerly loosely inserted in the Missal. (ii) Vellum tripartite indenture, 1719, between Sir Robert Abdy, Robert Cole and Robert James, Lord Petre, concerning land in Somerset and Devon. (Folio 4.) The document, which has offsets from folio 166 verso of the Lesmahagow Missal on the back, was once used to bind the volume. (iii) Paper flyleaf with the inscription 'Dominus Petre 1725'. (Folio 5.)
