Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows. (i) Fragmentary drafts of ‘Antient metaphysics’ vi, 1795-1796, undated. (Folio 1.) Many pages are missing, including the opening, and the text (which differs greatly from that of the edition) begins at the end of book 1, chapter 1. (ii) Contents list of the manuscript dated 1794, of ‘Antient metaphysics’ vi. The manuscript itself does not survive. (Folio 46.) (iii) Notes, undated, from the printed edition, volumes i-v. (Folio 52.) Includes Monboddo number 294. (iv) 'Notes for the sheets that are to go to the Press', undated. The notes, intended for volume iv, are taken from Lord Monboddo's own manuscripts. (Folio 61.) Monboddo number 293. (v) 'Things to be added to the Book of Metaphysics', undated. Additions to volume i, book 3, chapter 3. (Folio 65.) Monboddo number 166. (vi) 'Notes of things to be observed in vol.6', taken from Monboddo's pocket books (MSS.24547-24584), undated. (Folio 71.)
