The Douglas Cause was the lawsuit in which the tutors of James George, 7th Duke of Hamilton, contested the claim of Archibald James Edward Douglas, son of Lady Jane Douglas Stewart, to the lands of the Douglas family. Lord Monboddo, who was then an advocate, represented the Douglas side.
