Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows. (i) Letters, 1834-1845, of Edward Ellice of Invergarry (died 1863), Secretary at War, 1832-1834: for the other side of this correspondence see the Ellice Papers, MS. 15001. (ii) Letters, 1827-1845, of Gilbert Elliot Murray Kynynmound, 2nd Earl of Minto. Much of the correspondence is concerned with Scottish political patronage during Lord Landsdowne's tenure of the Home Office in the Canning and Goderich governments, 1827-1828. (Folio 43.) (iii) Correspondence of Mary, Countess of Minto, with Lord and Lady Dunfermline on the engagement of Lady Mary Elliot and Ralph Abercromby, 1838. (Folio 138.) (iv) Letter, 1838, of Lady Mary Elliot, later Baroness Dunfermline, on her engagement. (Folio 152.)
