The contents are as follows:

“The Shepherd’s Tale”, [?1799], in Sir Walter Scott’s hand, containing slight variations throughout from the version given by John Gibson Lockhart in ‘Life of Sir Walter Scott’, chapter ix (folio 1);

'The Maid of Neidpath', with the preface as published, 1806 (folio 13);

'Wandering Willie', 1806 (folio 14B);

'Lines on Mr. Macdonald of Staaffa ... left in the Book at the Inn there where the Travellers put their names after visiting the Island of Staaffa, 1810' (erroneously dated 1814 in the ‘Poetical works’) (folio 15);

Part of the journal of the visit to Shetland, 9 August 1814 (folio 16);

'The Noble Moringer', 1819, with preface almost exactly as published in the ‘Poetical Works’, in Scott’s hand with a note by his daughter Sophia (folio 22);

“The Farrier’s Garland”, 1819, as published in Charles Kirkpatrick Sharpe, ‘Letters from and to Charles Kirkpatrick Sharpe’, volume ii, page 202, in Sophia’s hand with a note by her (folio 30);

'Camp', 1828, a copy of Scott’s account attached to a portrait of the dog, apparently that which Scott gave to John Stevenson on 10 March 1826 (see Journal) (folio 32);

Galley-proofs of a review by Scott of Robson's ‘British Herald’, with corrections in Scott’s hand, 1831, never published, according to Lockhart, ‘Life of Sir Walter Scott’, chapter lxxix (folio 33);

Proposed introduction to ‘Count Robert of Paris’, in William Laidlaw’s hand, [?1831], not published (folio 44);

Scott’s original manuscript, [?1829], of an article proposing an amendment of the Corn Laws and the institution of a modified income-tax, printed proofs of which are at MS.1000, though it was apparently not published (folio 55);

Fragment of an article referring to the Excise, in Scott’s hand, undated (folio 65).
