The letters include a series addressed by Anna Dorothea Benson Montagu, chiefly to Jane Welsh Carlyle, 1825-1834, undated, and several about introductions to be obtained for Thomas Carlyle on his Irish tour, 1849. Many are addressed to Dr John Aitken Carlyle; all the later letters, to Carlyle’s niece Mary Aitken.
