Scope and Contents
James Caird, an inspector of schools, wrote poetry and essays; his wife Janet was a novelist. Most of the letters are on literary topics. The earlier correspondence concerns the ‘Scottish International Review’, for which Robert Garioch Sutherland was an editorial adviser. Sutherland also discusses his own and the Cairds' work, as well as that of other contemporary authors.
