Scope and Contents

Some of the short stories are written on the backs of letters and reports on books. The contents are as follows. (i) Manuscript of 'I fell for a sailor', 1936. (Folio 1.) It was published in Fred Urquhart's collection ‘I fell for a sailor and other stories’ (London, 1940). (ii) Manuscript and corrected typescripts, 1941, of 'The Tattie Dressers', published in Urquhart's ‘Selected stories’ (London, 1947). (folio 7.) (iii) Typescript, heavily corrected in Manuscript of 'To Skye with Mona Lisa'. (Folio 19.) According to a bookseller's note (folio l8), this was intended for ‘Holidays and happy days’, edited by 0 Blakeston (London, 1949), but was not included. (iv) Manuscript, corrected typescripts and galley proof, 1966, of 'Weep no more, my lady'. (Folio 44.) First published in ‘The Queen’, 4 August 1966, it was reprinted in Urquhart's ‘The dying stallion’ (London, 1967). (v) Drafts, manuscript and typescript of 'Listen, Lords and Ladies gay', 1966. (Folio 105.) (vi) Manuscript and corrected typescript of 'Ghostess with the Mostest', 1966-1967. (folio 125.) (vii) Notes, drafts and corrected typescript of 'Every Woman her own Ghost', 1967. (Folio l56.) (viii) Notes, drafts and corrected typescript of 'Miss Jetta McClintock', completed in 1968. (Folio l89.)
