Scope and Contents

Included are records of ascents of the Rossberg (MS.11983, folio 32-34) and the Buet, near Chamonix (MS.11984, folios 41-48), the latter with Lady Minto; and expeditions from Airolo across the Gries Pass to Guttanen (MSS.11983, folios 50 verso-58 and 11984, folios 1-7), and through the Mont Blanc range (MS.11984, folios 49-52). Extensive meteorological observations are recorded throughout the journals, which contain further descriptions of Jean-Marie Couttet's climbs (MS.11984, folios 38-39), and a contemporary report, derived from Sir John Herschel, of the latter's ascent of the Breithorn (MS.11984, folios 57-59).
