Loose leaves from the travel journals of the 2nd Earl of Minto., March-May 1822.
Scope and Contents
The journals with associated loose leaves, chiefly in continuation of the tour in MSS.11983-11985, from Geneva to Turin, Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples, and a return via the Italian lakes, Switzerland and France to Minto (July, 1822). Later entries relate to George IV's visit to Edinburgh, and meteorological experiments at home. Subjects discussed or described include notables of Geneva, art collections and antiquities in Italy, and the rivalry of the sculptors Canova and Thorvaldsen; meteorological observations are found throughout the volumes.
