Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows. (i) Portion of journal, Paris to Vevey, 27 May-23 June, 1830 (folio 1); (ii) First draft of part of the Breithorn journal, with meteorological notes, 25 August-14 September, 1830 (folio 11); (iii) Ambroise Paccard, 'Nottes Sur la vallée de St. Nicolas en Aout 1830', published in ‘Alpine Journal’, volume xvi, 1893, pages 322-325 (folio 41); (iv) Copy of ‘Journal de Lausanne’, number 24, 21 May 1787, given to the 2nd Earl of Minto by Ambroise Paccard (see MS.11992, folio 76), and containing the declaration of Jacques Balmat des Baux relating to his ascent of Mont Blanc with Michel- Gabriel Paccard (folio 48); (v) Draft letter of the 2nd Earl, ?1830, giving a report of his expedition (folio 50); (vi) 'Ascent of the Breithorn. Scientific Experiments': meteorological notes and calculations, 1830 (folio 57); (vii) Note, undated, on outside wrapper originally enclosing part contents of this volume, recording that 'What is here called the Monte Rosa ... proves to be the summit of the Breithorn' (folio 112).
