The correspondence is arranged in two series, consisting of individual correspondence (MSS. 23171-23178), being letters and paper from those (and their relatives) with whom George Smith was most frequently in contact, and general correspondence (MSS.23179-23184) consisting of single and small groups of letters mostly from contributors to the ‘Cornhill Magazine’. Both series are arranged in alphabetical order.
