Custodial History
A section of the register is officially recorded as missing. The particular folios are entries by David Hume of new acquisitions to the Library of the Faculty of Advocates from 1752 to 1754. Most notably, the missing section included a record of the deletion, ordered by the Faculty, of three works acquired by Hume. A copy of that particular folio is included in "For the Encouragement of Learning: Scotland’s National Library 1689-1989", edited by Patrick Cadell and Ann Matheson (Edinburgh: HMSO, 1989). As a consequence of the missing folios the volume now ends in 1752.
