Scope and Contents
This series contains important literary manuscripts of Lord Byron, including many manuscripts and fair copies of some of his most well-known works, among them: 'Bride of Abydos', “Childe Harold's Pilgrimage”, 'Don Juan', 'Manfred' and 'Vision of Judgement'. Also present are many of his smaller works of poetry and prose.
Additionally, three of Byron’s journals (two original, the other a copy in the hand of Augusta Leigh) are included; as too commonplace books of not only Byron but of some members of his circle, particularly Augusta Leigh and Lady Caroline Lamb (one of which is addressed to Byron).
Additionally, many manuscripts of works of prose and poetry relating to members of Byron’s circle, including John Cam Hobhouse, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Edward John Trelawny, are held. With these manuscripts are biographical notes on Byron, and other works dedicated to the poet.

Arrangement
The manuscripts and fair copies of the narrative works of Lord Byron, including 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage', 'The Corsair' and 'Don Juan', have been placed at the start of the sequence. Following these are the commonplace books of Lord Byron. Manuscripts, fragments and fair copies relating to non-narrative works of the poet are then ordered before the journals, diaries and other prose manuscripts of Byron.
The manuscripts are arranged in the following series. (i) The manuscripts and fair copies of the narrative works of Lord Byron, including “Child Harold's Pilgrimage”, 'The Corsair', and 'Don Juan'. (ii) The commonplace books of Lord Byron. (iii) Manuscripts, fragments and fair copies relating to non-narrative works of Byron. (iv) The journals, diaries and other prose manuscripts of Byron. (v) Manuscripts of the poetry of Lord Byron written out by others. (vi) Manuscripts, including commonplace books, of or relating to the friends and family of Lord Byron.
