Biographical / Historical
Sir Charles Malcolm was the brother of Admiral Sir Pulteney Malcolm. He entered the Royal Navy in 1795 and was employed in the East Indies until 1802, then in France and Portugal and in the West Indies again between 1809-1819. When the Marquis of Wellesley was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland (1822-1827), Sir Charles commanded the Vice-regal yacht and was knighted for his services. He was Superintendent of the Bombay Marine (later the Indian Navy) from 1827-1837 and became Vice-Admiral in 1847.
