Six of the poems, entitled 'Beside an idle summer sea', 'Mixing a dream by the way', 'To me in my fifth floor chamber', 'Bring her again, thou western wind', 'She sauntered by the swinging seas', and 'There is a wheel within my head', were published, with considerable alterations, in ‘A book of verses’ (London, 1888). Another, originally entitled 'The west ablaze with insupportable gold', was published as 'The west a glory of green and red and gold' in ‘Hawthorn and Lavender’ (London, 1899). The remaining twenty-five were printed in ‘Poetry Review’, volume xl (1949), pages 188-199.
