Scope and Contents

The collection, from the Dawson Turner autograph collection, comprises of two series of letters. The first set (1-21), mainly to John Maitland, 1st Duke of Lauderdale, as Secretary of State to Charles II, concerns public affairs in Scotland from the time of the Restoration. It is arranged alphabetically by correspondent. The second set (22-31), is of a miscellaneous character, and is arranged chronologically.
