Custodial History
The manuscripts were bound up into 64 volumes, apparently in the early 20th century, by Horatio Granville Murray Stewart, whose bookplate is pasted inside the front cover of each volume. The published volume of the 'Cumloden Papers' (Edinburgh, 1871) [Acc.9074/73], also contains printed letters from Nelson and Wellington. The volumes containing the originals of these letters were removed and sold at Christie’s, 16 October 1985, where they were lots 44-56 (Nelson) and 65 (Wellington). Another volume, containing Stewart’s journal of the Baltic Expedition and the Battle of Copenhagen 1801, which was also printed in the 'Cumloden Papers', was removed at the same time.
