Scope and Contents

Andrew Cochrane Johnstone was involved in various speculative and fraudulent activities, and, on his expulsion from Parliament in 1814, he returned to the West Indies. Many of the papers concern lawsuits arising from the sale of his sugar and coffee estates in Dominica, and his attempts to transport chattel slaves from Dominica to Demerara. There are also letters concerning the shipping of wool and sheep from Spain to North America, 1810-1812, and his claims for money against the British and French governments.
