Custodial History

The papers were formerly on deposit in the Scottish Record Office (SRO) as the Dundas of Ochtertyre Muniments (GD35), but some items held in the SRO were sold separately and are not included in the collection purchased by the Library. Former SRO numbers are noted in the custodial history note of each entry for the convenience of readers who have used the collection previously, but are there for information only and should not be used for reference purposes.

For the Ochtertyre Manuscripts, the reminiscences, biographical essays etc, of John Ramsay of Ochtertyre deposited in the Library in 1936 and purchased alongside this collection in 1993, see MSS.1635-1644 (Catalogue of Manuscripts, volume 1).

A few printed items (formerly SRO, GD35/85,331,337) have been transferred to the Department of Printed Books.
