Charles Lumsden has signed and dated the end of most of the sections; and he foliated the leaves (in light brown ink just above and to the right of the text) and signed the gatherings (A-W⁸, in the centre lower margin of the first recto). From these indications it appears that he copied most of the text from April to July 1601. In January and February 1602 he added the index, the notes to Regiam Maiestatem i and ii and to Makkenneth, and the second copy of the burgh laws (in that order). At some point folios 77-78 were added and blank leaves (of the same paper) inserted between many of the sections.

In addition to the formal notes there are brief marginal notes written by Lumsden and Sir John Skene himself.

Frequent corrections have been made by pasting in slips. Skene`s name is cut out at the end of the dedication.
