Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows:

(i) Memoranda relating to financial and other transactions of Rankin of Orchardhead, 1605 (folio 1); 1605-1609 (folio 2 inverted);

(ii) Miscellaneous material, mid-seventeenth century: 'Lactari cordato et greca lingua studioso' (folio 4); latin verses (folio 12 inverted); sermons and historical notes (folio 13 inverted);

(iii) Material relating to Alexander Mure, portioner of Grange of Bothkennar: 'Rentall of the Bacraw', 1639, followed by accounts, 1636-1642, mixed with accounts for 1702 in a different hand (folios 5-8, 10); inventory of Grange, 1641 (folio 17 inverted); copy of tack by Alexander Mure, 1617, and accounts for crop 1642 (folios 18-19 inverted).

(iv) Genealogical information about Gabriel Rankin of Orchardhead and his wife Sophia Clark (folio 9), with his accounts for farming and household requisites, 1702-25 (folio 10 verso), 1702-1703, 1705-1708 (folios 11 verso, 12 verso, 19 verso inverted).
