 File
Identifier: Adv.MS.19.1.26

Scope and Contents

Most of the material concerns Arlington in his capacity of Secretary of State, particularly with reference to French and Dutch affairs, and much of it is dated 1669. The correspondence contains letters from foreign statesmen and diplomatists such as the Marquis de Louvois and Baron von Lisola, English politicians such as Sir Richard Temple and Sidney Godolphin, and a number of unsigned letters reporting on events in Europe, probably from Arlington`s agents. There are a few memoranda on foreign affairs in Arlington`s hand, and drafts of letters of Arlington and Charles II to foreign sovereigns and statesmen.
