Scope and Contents

The contents of the manuscript are as follows:

(i) Latin legal abbreviations, 16th century. (Folio 1.)

(ii) Speech in Latin addressed to `domine doctissime coeterique commilitones mei suavissimi`, in praise of modesty. Late 16th or early 17th century. (Folio 2.)

(iii) Transcript, 19th century, of the Register of the Privy Council of Scotland, 3 February, 1590, concerning the slaughter of David Taillor by William Spottiswood of that Ilk and others. Cf. ‘The Register of the Privy Council of Scotland’, pages 574-575. (Folio 3.)

(iv) Memorandum, 1742, as to the debts on the estate of James Erskine, Lord Grange. (Folio 7.)

(v) Letter, 1757, of Thomas Tweedie to Samuel Mitchelson, Writer to the Signet, about the tack of Fingland. (Folio 8.)

(vi) Copy of a letter, undated (perhaps of a King of Spain), concerning the inducement of soldiers at Gibraltar to desert. (Folio 9.)

(vii) ‘Notes on the minutes of the convention [of the Friends of the People] published in the [Edinburgh] Gazetteer of Tuesday 26 Novem. 1793’. Limited to notes on the delegates. (Folio 10.)

(viii) `Note of the names and principal seats of the peers of Scotland`, circa 1790. (Folio 16.)

(ix) Copies of signatures of Scottish noblemen and lairds, 1498-1786, copied by Fraser from various charter-chests. (Folio 18.)
