Bibliography

After Wallace`s death, the ‘Account’ was published by his son in 1693 and again in 1700; the first edition has since been edited by John Small as ‘Description of the Isles of Orkney’ (Edinburgh, 1883).
In editing his father`s work, the younger Wallace added some material and continued the history to 1688. This manuscript contains the original version of the `Account`. Chapters vi-vii and several short passages of the printed edition are missing, and the chapters are in a different order.
